Mahindra will not launch any new product till 2015 but the company is working on facelifts for most of its offerings which will be launched next year. The Scorpio celebrated its 10th birthday last year and there is no doubt the vehicle is showing its age. However Mahindra continues to sell the SUV in good numbers, in spite of heavy competition from the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. What tilts demand in the Scorpio’s favour is its SUV styling and 7-seats which are an instant hit with rural consumers.
However the Mahindra Scorpio hasn’t got any substantial change since quite some time now. The upcoming Scorpio update isn’t an all new model but a facelift which should address quite a few issues of the vehicle. The 2014 Mahindra Scorpio will not only get minor aesthetic updates but the company will also add more features and improve the suspension of the vehicle. MotorBeam reader M. Shreyash recently spotted a fleet of Mahindra cars in Manali recently and these pictures clearly shows the company is cold weather testing the upcoming Scorpio.
Mahindra is also working on the next generation Scorpio which will be a massive leap in many ways. The automaker continues to work on the current Scorpio as it feels there is still potential left in the current life cycle of this decade old product. The facelifted Scorpio (codenamed W105) will continue to use the same set of engines; 2.2-litre mHawk producing 120 BHP and 2.5-litre m2DiCR generating 75 BHP. Both are diesel engines mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Expect Mahindra to hike prices with the launch of the updated Scorpio, which is likely to be called “all new”.
