The Mahindra Scorpio is just weeks away from the impending facelift and the Indian auto giant’s best selling SUV is all set to get a host of changes to the exterior design as well as the cabin comprehensively. Now, while the fully loaded interiors of the Scorpio facelift have been spotted, our eagle eyed reader Rahul Sharma managed to capture the base variant void of all the bells and whistles at the Gandhinagar RTO, Gujarat. The new spy shots also give a much better glimpse on the changes to the front fascia that will give this ageing SUV a lease of new life.
Starting with the exteriors, the most prominent change on the 2014 Mahindra Scorpio facelift is the new front fascia that gets a bold and upright look. An all-black mesh grille with vertical slats and the Mahindra logo stacked in the centre replaces the current unit. The headlamp cluster has been redesigned for a more angular look with blackened double-barrel headlamps featuring silver elements that integrate well with the new grille. The indicator lights have also moved to the bottom from the sides. We also expect to see daytime running lights on the facelifted model, albeit on the higher versions.
Other changes include the revised hood which now gets the seamlessly integrated bonnet scoop with a black mesh grille, while retaining the same muscular parallel lines. The front bumper will also see changes with wider redesigned air intakes and fog lamp cluster. The side profile gets no changes and the base variant continues to get black ORVMS, door-handles, body cladding and steel rims, much like the outgoing model. Even though Rahul could not snap the rear, we know that changes include new D-shaped LED tail lights with subtle revisions to the tail gate. There will also be new design alloy-wheels on offer.
Moving inside the cabin, the base variant misses a ton of features and premium touches that were seen on the top end model. The black-beige interiors have been retained but the dual-tone steering wheel has been replaced by an all-black unit without any controls. There is no audio unit available on the base variant, unlike the top-end model that gets the new touchscreen infotainment system. The gear knob too is all black and the brushed aluminium accents on the instrument cluster, air-con vents and control switches have been replaced by a plastic black finish.
The power window switches have been retained in the centre like the current version, but will be moved to the door on the higher-spec variants. A major change, the 2014 Scorpio facelift gets a third row of seating with headrests and reasonable legroom on offer. The dual-tone seats have been retained as well. Overall, the Scorpio facelift looks and feels much ahead of its predecessor. While the Scorpio was always feature loaded, the interior quality did not compliment the sentiment that well. The new model however is surely classier with a much improved fit and finish on offer. Mahindra has already commenced production of the facelifted Scoprio to ensure quick deliveries.
