Jaguar has finally unveiled the much awaited coupe version of its F-Type which will grace the show floor at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The F-Type coupe follows the F-Type convertible which was launched successfully earlier this year being the first two-seater offering from the company since the legendary E-Type. Jaguar unveiled the top of the line spec, breaking cover with the performance R-Version which is more powerful than any of the existing F-Type variants.
Like the convertible, the Jaguar F-Type coupe comes with a choice of 3 engines. Two supercharged V6s and a range-topping supercharged V8. Though the power outputs of the supercharged V6s have remained unchanged from the convertible at 335 HP and 375 HP, Jaguar has discarded the 488 HP ‘V8S‘ replacing it with the more powerful 542 HP ‘V8R’, which features the marque’s 5.0-litre engine in its most dynamic form.
The Jaguar F-Type V8R coupe will do 0-100 km/hr in under 4 seconds and will achieve a top speed of 300 km/hr. The F-type V8R coupe is loaded with performance oriented technology. The suspension comes with adaptive dynamics that features the management of car’s body movements and adjusts accordingly. The F-Type R version further gets new electronic active differential and a torque vectoring system which further aids the handling capabilities wherein the former controls the amount of torque sent to each independent wheel while the latter independently brakes the inner wheels so as to reduce understeer.
The F-Type V8R features the largest brakes in the F-Type range with 15-inches in the front and 14.8-inches at the rear. Carbon-ceramic brakes will also be made available for increased stopping power. The latest member of Jaguar’s R performance line-up will set you back by $99,000 (Rs. 61.6 lakhs, without duties and taxes). The 3.0-litre V6-powered base model producing 335 HP will be available from a starting price of $65,000 (Rs. 40.5 lakhs, without duties and taxes). This supercharged engine will do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 5.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of 260 km/hr.
The same 3.0-litre, supercharged, V6-powered engine tuned to produce an additional 40 HP dubbed as the F-Type S coupe will do the 0-100 km/hr dash in 4.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 275 km/hr. This car is priced at $77,000 (Rs. 48 lakhs, without duties and taxes) and all the variants use ZF’s 8-speed transmission. The S coupe features active exhaust, launch control, adaptive suspension in addition to the dynamic mode common on all variants. Jaguar has done a very good job in keeping the aesthetics very similar in comparison to the C-X16 concept car on which the coupe is based. We can expect this sports car to hit Indian shores only next year, with a starting price of Rs. 1.25 crores (ex-showroom).
