The Figo has been a significant product for Ford, positioning them as a volumes player in the Indian market bringing glory as the most awarded car. Ford has now equipped the 2014 edition of the Figo with Wi-Fi connectivity, a first in the segment. The 2014 Ford Figo comes as a part of a special value pack inclusive of Wi-Fi connectivity, colour coordinated seat covers and LED interior lighting; all of which can be purchased at a price of Rs. 9790/-. Ford has also increased the prices of the Figo by Rs. 10,000-20,000/- and the car is now priced between Rs. 4.17 – 6.48 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai)
The Wi-Fi connectivity feature was available only with luxury cars and Ford has brought it as an interesting optional feature to a hatchback. As part of the special value pack the customers get a Wi-Fi dongle, which needs to be plugged into the car’s music system. Customers will have to purchase a data enabled SIM card needed to activate the dongle and access the internet, while on the go. Ford says that all five passengers will be able to use the Wi-Fi. The optional pack can be added to any variant of the vehicle.
Ford has also updated the 2014 Figo with a new colour called Mars Red from the EcoSport, while the bright yellow has been discontinued. You also get driver-side airbag and electrically adjustable mirrors as standard on the top end ZXi trim. The base EXi variant has been updated with Bluetooth connectivity, 2 DIN audio system with CD, MP3, Aux-in, USB and has 4-speakers and a roof antenna. The 2014 Figo also gets a new driver information system and speed sensing volume controls.
Ford understands that connectivity is a crucial factor in the lives of today’s youth who are connected to the world via the internet and accessibility along with mobility matters to them. It has provided Bluetooth connectivity even on the base variant, as standard. Ford is also working on reducing the cost of ownership of its cars and has introduced the Happy Pocket Service along with the comprehensive two year or 1 lakh kilometre warranty.
The Ford 2014 Figo is available with the same 1.2-litre DuraTec petrol engine producing 71 PS and 1.4-litre DuraTorq diesel unit generating 69 PS, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Ford will be launching the new Figo via the ‘Smart is the new cool’ campaign highlighting the connectivity options now available. Certainly the Figo has become a more lucrative package with Ford’s promise to deliver a value for money offering with quality and reliability. Ford is most likely to offer Wi-Fi on its other models as well in the future.
