After taking the covers off the Fiesta facelift at the 2014 Auto Expo last month, Ford have started testing the C-segment sedan in the country which was spotted by our reader Anirudh Naagi. The test mule spotted did not have any camouflage and was captured just 7 kms away from the Ford factory in Chennai. The spy shot featured the Paprika red colour scheme and was the top of the line variant. The Fiesta facelift gets a slew of changes with updated powertrain options as well as addition of features on the interiors. The 2014 Fiesta has also been updated on Ford India’s website indicating a launch soon.
The 2014 Ford Fiesta gets the updated Aston Martin-like corporate grille induced with chrome that has also featured on other models in Ford’s lineup. The swept back headlight design adds flare to the front facia of the car. The bumper and the fog lamps have also been revamped, giving a sporty appeal to the vehicle. The rear on the other hand gets more angular, which helps in reducing the visual bulk of the vehicle. The re-designed tail light units, while more cuts and creases around the rear bumper and boot lid lend a cleaner look.
The major change on the global Fiesta facelift is the introduction of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that is capable of churning out 123 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque. Couple that to the superb handling of the vehicle and the enthusiasts are once again up for a treat. Ford has however not confirmed if the EcoBoost engine will be offered in India. The 1.5-litre TDCi engine capable of 89 BHP of power and 204 Nm of torque will continue to do diesel duties. The 108 BHP 1.5-litre motor will continue powering the base petrol variant.
The Fiesta facelift will also host new set of features on the inside. An updated SYNC system, App Link, Emergency Assist and a start/stop button will be offered on the top end variant. The new Fiesta shares a lot of its components with the EcoSport, so expect to see a major revision with the new prices being more competitive. The Fiesta will be facing fierce competition from the all-new Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento in the segment. The prices for the 2014 Ford Fiesta are most likely to start at Rs. 7 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched.
