Nissan has launched its first entry level car in India, under its emerging market brand Datsun. The Datsun GO is aimed at first time car buyers, competing against the Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto. The Datsun GO is the first car after the resurrection of the Datun brand after close to 30 years. The second model from Datsun is the GO+ MPV which will be launched in the second half of the year. Nissan recently split up from its market partner Hover and the Datsun GO is available at 125 plus outlets across the country, ready for immediate delivery. It is offered with a 2-years/unlimited kms warranty.
Datsun has offered three variants of the GO – D, A and T. The D variant is the base variant and is priced at Rs. 3.12 lakhs while the A variant is the mid-variant priced at Rs. 3.46 lakhs and the T variant is the top variant priced at Rs. 3.70 lakhs. The Hyundai Eon is priced between Rs. 2.83 to Rs. 3.82 lakhs while the Maruti Alto K10 is priced between Rs. 3.19 to Rs. 3.32 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). To the GO’s credit is its bigger engine and dimensions resulting in good highway performance and acres of interior room.
The Datsun GO is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which makes 68 HP of power and 104 Nm of torque, coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. The GO has an ARAI certified mileage of 20.6 km/l and has the largest boot in its class, measuring 265-litres. Unlike its rivals, the GO doesn’t get any option of an airbag and the other two competing cars aren’t offered with ABS either (not even as an option). The GO gets equipment like front power windows, power steering, digital tachometer, distance to empty, follow-me home headlamps, etc. Front power windows, power steering, Mobile Docking System and central locking are offered on the top-end T variant only. The base variant doesn’t get AC. A range of accessories are offered for the Datsun GO at the dealer level.
