General Motors has unveiled the updated Chevrolet Camaro at the 2013 New York Auto Show and the Z/28 track capable model has returned with the updated 2014 Camaro, which will supplement the ZL1 model. The Camaro has been restyled and it looks sleeker than before. Upfront the Camaro features a narrower upper grille opening along with a chrome highlighting and integrated slimmer headlamps. The bumper has been redesigned and the hood features a new functional vent. The rear gets a new grown up black diffuser with new one-piece LED tail lamps treatment, inspired by old generation Camaro models.
According to Chevrolet, the Camaro Z/28 is the fastest road-racing Camaro, which is a street-legal sports car tuned for the track. The Z/28 is powered by a Corvette sourced monstrous 7.0-litre V8 motor which can produce 500 HP of maximum power and 637 Nm of peak torque, mated exclusively to a 6-speed manual transmission with close-ratio gearing transmitting the power to the rear wheels. For track oriented driving dynamics, the Camaro Z/28 uses lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine, carbon-ceramic brakes, integrated coolers for track use, true aerodynamic downforce and a significant reduction in kerb weight.
Chevrolet has done tremendous weight saving work with the Z/28 model to provide optimum driving dynamics. The Z/28 is 45 kgs lighter than the naturally aspirated Camaro SS and 136 kgs lighter than the supercharged Camaro ZL1. The 2014 Camaro is well equipped with features including Recaro seats with microfibre suede inserts, a limited-slip differential featuring a helical gear set, 305/30/ZR19 Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tyres, Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix rotors and fixed monoblock calipers. For improved handling, the Z/28 features stiffer string rates and suspension bushings. Other details and pricing are yet to be announced by the American automaker.
