BMW unveiled the M4 coupe concept in California at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Although showcased as a concept, this slick two-door coupe looks almost production ready. Swaying away from colours like black and blue, BMW has painted this coupe in an M4 specific shade called Aurum Dust. The BMW 4-Series Coupe is a replacement to the current 3-Series Coupe to be launched in 2014 and likewise the M4 is the successor to the M3 Coupe. With crisp flowlines and overlapping surfaces, the BMW M4 is a sure aerodynamic deal packed with performance. An impressive wide and low stance offers a striking appearance.
The high performance derivative that the BMW M4 is, it will feature a six-cylinder, twinturbo engine which will output more power than the outgoing engine. The M4 Coupe will use a V8 engine rated at around 450 BHP from the above mentioned unit. Typical to an M car, the M4 will boast of an aggressive body kit. The air dam is roomy and seem to have a very directed air flow through it. The eyes of the BMW M4 have twin LED round headlights and the characteristic BMW kidney-grille bears an M badge at the side.
The roof of the BMW M4 Coupe is blackened and the highlight is the Motorsport flag colour stripe running along the length. It is made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic which along with weight reduction also helps to lower the car’s centre of gravity. The rear has an integrated spoiler and four exhaust ports. The rear diffuser is also made of carbon fibre. The wheels are 20-inch M alloy wheels with five dual-spokes.
The technical details are not out yet but are mostly expected at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Expect production by 2014 to rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe, Audi RS5 and the Nissan GT-R. BMW will launch the M4 Coupe in India by the end of next year.
