2014 Discover 150 Produces 14.5 PS Of Power, Specs Revealed

Bajaj Auto will launch the Discover 150 twins on the 11th of August (on the same day Hyundai will launch the second generation i20). The Discover 150 is offered in S and F variants, one being a naked while the other is a half-faired bike, priced Rs. 4500/- apart from each other. The Discover 150 S has been priced at Rs. 63,500/- while the Discover 150 F costs Rs. 68,000/- (on-road, Mumbai). But wait, the bike hasn’t been launched? So what, Bajaj has already revealed all the details of the bike, including dispatching the motorcycle to dealers who have also started deliveries

MotorBeam reader Praveen Chinnala’s brother has already got delivery of his Discover 150 S and he has sent us some pictures. The owner’s manual reveals the technical specifications of the bike which was the only missing piece in this jig-saw puzzle. The Discover 150 S uses a 144.8cc, DTS-i engine which employs 4-valves. Power output is a generous 14.5 PS at 8500 RPM while torque output is 12.75 Nm at 6500 RPM, the motor being coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. What is interesting is the weight, which is a low 129 kgs (130 kgs with the optional front disc). This is sure to make the Discover 150 very peppy but top speed is just 110 km/hr, so gearing is short for better acceleration.

The current Pulsar 150 produces 15.06 PS at 9000 RPM and 12.5 Nm at 6500 RPM, the Discover 150 getting quite close to the output of the ‘Definitely Male’ bike. Bajaj Auto hasn’t been spotted testing the new Discover so the new engine is likely to have been tested in one of the Pulsar mules as a lot of them have been spied of late. With Bajaj set to launch an all new Pulsar 150, one can expect it to produce close to 17 PS of power. The Discover 150 will primarily rival the Honda Unicorn in the entry-level 150cc segment.
