Seems like Mercedes-Benz is almost ready with the facelifted E-class since high quality uncamouflaged images have started coming up on the internet. What the German car maker has done is more than a mid-cycle facelift to revive the E-Class. Apart from the cosmetic design changes, even the sheet metal has been altered to an extent. The most noticeable difference is the front of the car. The prominent twin headlamps on either side has been coupled into single units with dual all-day running LED lights. The front-grille looks quite big and airy and the front fascia overall reminds us of the S-Class.
On the sides, a few strokes are visible running along the length taking the design away from the retro look and the folks at Mercedes-Benz have also given away the rear fenders. The rear headlamps have also been slightly re-designed and the bumper is also more sculpted lessening the sharp edges overall. The new E-Class also gets a black panoramic roof just like how it is in the new C-Class. On the inside, there is a new sportier steering wheel and revised instrument panel. The cabin has been given softer touch materials and the balance of the metal lining with the plastics and leather is pleasing.
The powertrains are likely to remain unaltered with the E350’s 3.0-litre, V6 petrol and Bluetec turbo-diesel engines, the E550’s 4.7-litre V8 and also the powerful E63 AMG’s 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8. The facelifted Mercedes E-Class will be unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January. The E-Class is an important vehicle for Mercedes-Benz and is facing stiff competition from BMW’s 5-Series and the Audi’s A6, where these competitors are gaining more numbers comparatively. So a reviving facelift was the need of the hour for the E-Class. A new E63 AMG coupe is also expected to be introduced in next year.
