The US based auto manufacturer, Ford Motors will be bringing in its new Monde to the Indian market come 2013. Recently Ford had displayed anther model of its portfolio, the Fusion at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The Fusion and the Mondeo will be very similar to each other and is a part of the new “One Ford Global Vehicle” strategy. The actual Ford Mondeo will be showcased by the company in the upcoming Paris Motor Show. It will also be be showcasing a hatchback concept of the Mondeo which might make it to the Indian markets too.
The new Mondeo has been totally redesigned and Ford has done a commendable job in that department. The design cues seem to be heavily influenced by the likes of Aston Martin and Audi. At the rear too, the same story goes on but overall Ford has managed to retain the rock solid muscular Ford identity. The new Mondeo is bigger than the older version by 133mm in length and 26mm in height indicating a bigger car with more cabin space. The Mondeo is likely to be powered by 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine options. The 1.6 litre mill produces 179 PS of power while the 2.0 litre mill that currently does duty in the Range Rover Evoque too produces 237 PS of power.
The engines will be mated to a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic option whichever you choose. The new Mondeo gets MacPherson Strut suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear similar to the old one. Features in the interior include LED interior lighting, leather seats and a digital command centre which Ford calls as Human Machine Interface (HMI), Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable speed limiter, lane departure warning and an engine start-stop system. In India, the Ford Mondeo will go heads up against the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry which will make it challenging for Ford to battle against these established models.
