The most iconic American sports car, the SRT Viper has gone on sale in North America on the 21st of November. This latest version of the 20 year old big brash American bruiser, sports many improvements in terms of performance, refinement, features and even styling. The CEO of the Street and Racing Technology said that it boasts the pride, quality and hand build craftsmanship that goes into making a world beating performance machine. It has been launched with two models, the base model for old school performance enthusiasts and the top line GTS model with added creature comforts.
As it has been for the last 2 decades, the Dodge Viper has a massive aluminum V10, 8.4-litres of capacity that cranks out 640 HP and a mind boggling 812.6 Nm of torque (which is the highest torque of any normally aspirated sports car engine). It boasts an improved 6-speed Tremec TR6060 manual gear box with a short throw shifter and revised ratios with drive going to the rear wheels. The top speed owing to all these improvements is 332 km/hr.
The chassis too has been redesigned for more rigidity and stability for improved handling along with a weight loss of 45 kgs. The rear suspension too has been fine tuned. The new Viper gets electronic traction and stability control, advanced ABS as well as launch control. The old Viper looked like a big bad American muscle car, but this car has been designed with more style and better aerodynamics. Also new are new bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and a re-designed grill. A wide selection of new wheels are available.
What remains are the long hood, lots of vents and the side exhausts. On the inside it has lightweight fiberglass seats with better adjustability and adjustable steering column to give a perfect driving position as well as more space. Another standard fitment is the 8.4-inch centre console touch screen for the infotainment system. The GTS model gets many interior upgrades with full leather interiors and extra padding for various surfaces. Also all the materials used in the cabin are of the highest grade and gets many technological upgrades.
