Mahindra owned Ssangyong showcased its pre-facelift Rexton at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012. Now Ssangyong has unveiled the facelift of the Rexton dubbed as Rexton W at the Busan Motor Show. Ssangyong has given Rexton a new model name, facelift and all new power train. Mahindra will be launching the Rexton in the Indian market later this year, at a price around Rs. 20 lakhs. We are confident that Mahindra will get the facelifted Rexton W to the Indian market.
The all new Ssangyong Rexton W has undergone some serious changes which include all new front bumpers, restyled headlamps and rear profile and refreshed grills. The redesigned chrome-lined grill gives Rexton W a wider and bolder look and houses a large Ssangyong logo in the centre. On the other hand, the rear profile of the car has also been restyled completely. Now it gets integrated LED turn-indicators on the wing-mirrors and the rear bumper-line now flows well with the lip of the boot-lid. Interiors have got some treatment too like dashboard with a dash of chrome and more comfortable giving Rexton a more premium feel. The Ssangyong Rexton W will now come with active roll over protection, tire pressure monitoring system, smart key system, ESP, ultrasonic warning system, rain sensing wipers and Eco cruise control.

With the much needed facelift, the Ssangyong Rexton W has got an all-new turbo diesel engine developed by Ssangyong named the e-XDi200 active. Mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox, this new engine features variable geometry turbocharger and a common rail direct injection which will produce 155PS of power and 360Nm of torque. A new 2.2 litre twin turbocharged diesel motor, developing a whooping 221bhp, is also in the pipeline. The new Ssangyong Rexton W will be available in Korea by June 2012. Mahindra, SsangYong’s owner, said in December 2010 that it would add assembly of the Rexton (and Korando) at its Chakan plant. This is due to take place during the second half of 2012. Now as the SUV market heating up in India the Ssangyong Rexton W if priced aggressively can make the competitors scratch their heads.
Meanwhile Mahindra continues to test the Ssangyong Rexton in the Indian market. This picture was shot by MotorBeam reader Ravi Chauhan on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.
