Ford will be officially unveil the EcoSport on the 4th of January, 2012. The next generation EcoSport, which will also make its global debut on the India unveiling day could be a stunning compact SUV, if the latest renderings are anything to go by. The Ford EcoSport is based on the Fiesta platform. The EcoSport will be available in both petrol and diesel versions with the EcoBoost petrol engine making its debut as well. The Ecoboost technology will help Ford use a smaller displacement motor to produce enough power to haul this rather heavy vehicle. The 1.5-liter diesel from the Fiesta will also do duty and is expected to produce around 100 BHP of power. Both these engines, along with the sub-4-meter lenght will help Ford classify the EcoSport as a small car. This will give the American automaker excise benefits and scope to aggressively price the EcoSport in the Indian market.
The exteriors of the Ford EcoSport follow the company’s kinetic design language, while the interiors will be very similar to the Fiesta (pictured below). The chunky wheels (from the Focus) won’t make it to Indian roads but since Ford is just showcasing the concept, we can expect the EcoSport to possess these delicious alloy wheels. There is absolutely no news on the pricing but we expect the EcoSport to be positioned bang in between the Classic and the Fiesta, so expecting a starting price of Rs. 7 lakhs for the base petrol is not being optimistic. The top end diesel should be priced around Rs. 10 lakhs. The commanding looks, high ground clearance and frugal powertrains should be the selling points for Ford India’s second of eight products.
