Ford India has springed a surprise on the motoring press fraternity. Everyone expected the upcoming 2011 FIesta to be powered by 1.6 liter powerplants, but the company has used 1.5 liter engines in the car. The diesel Fiesta’s 1.5 liter TDCi engine is an enlarged version of the current 1.4 liter unit with the addition of an intercooler. It will produce 90hp of power and 204Nm of torque. More importantly the 2011 Fiesta diesel will return 23.5 kmpl. The petrol Fiesta’s 1.5 liter Duratec Ti-VCT engine produces 108bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. This motor returns a mileage of 17 kmpl. The mileage figures are ARAI certified, so you can expect them to be 10% too optimistic. Still the new Fiesta is insanely fuel efficient and uses the same powertrains as its global counterparts. As we reported earlier, the new Fiesta will get a twin-clutch autobox but only later on in the year.
