Maruti and Hyundai’s domination continues in April 2017 sales as well, 16 cars of the two manufacturers present in the list.
The top 20 selling cars list even for April 2017 has the usual suspects, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, with as much as 12 cars (i.e. 60 percent of the top 20 list) from Maruti’s stable. Hyundai has been consistent with its 4 models in the list. The chart above is self-explanatory, let’s tell you about the cars that couldn’t make it to this list.
Fiat continued to be the worst performer among the other brands selling only 292 units in total with the Punto, Punto Evo and the Avventura accounting for 80 percent of Fiat’s total sales. Next comes the American carmaker, Chevrolet, that sold only 883 units in total, Tavera contributing over 50 percent to that number. The Czech carmaker, Skoda too saw its sales declining when compared to March 2017 figures. It sold a total of 1372 units, the Rapid being its best seller, sold 1077 units.
Next in the pipeline, is the German carmaker, Volkswagen. It sold a total of 3673 units, Polo (1837 units) and Ameo (1270 units) contributing a major pie to that number. The Jetta only sold in 2 numbers, it was discontinued sometime back. Then comes Nissan which managed to sell 4217 units, the rediGO (1972 units), GO (607 units) and the Micra (596 units) contributing almost 73 percent to that number. Ford managed to sell 7618 units out of which 3924 were EcoSports and 9 were Mustangs.
Renault has been riding on the Kwid and managed to sell 7956 units. Tata’s Tiago sold 4115 units and the Tigor sold 3638 units, while the Nano saw sales of 350 units. Toyota continues to be dependent on the Innova Crysta with 6589 units being sold and the Landcruiser selling 18 units only. If there’s something negative about the current generation Honda City, it has to be the price, and in-spite of being a tad bit over-priced, the City continues to sell in good numbers, it sold 5948 units.
Mahindra’s Scorpio being there in the market for over a decade still sells in good numbers. The Scorpio sold 4489 units and Mahindra’s total sales were 17,802 units. Hyundai sold 44,758 units of which the Elite i20 sold 12,668 units and the Grand i10 sold 12,001 units. Last but not the least, Maruti sold a staggering 1,44,081 units, the Swift being the top-seller sold 23,802 units and the S-Cross sold 2676 units. The Baleno and Vitara Brezza too sold 17,530 and 10,653 units respectively.
