Sales of 150cc motorcycles showed an increment for certain models last month with the Pulsar 150 continuing its winning streak in the segment while the Suzuki Gixxer is seeing an increase in demand.
The two-wheeler market in India is booming for sure and there is a lot of scope in the future too. However, certain established players have a monopoly in the market while new entrants are also striving hard to rake in the numbers. Keeping the entire market aside, let us just talk about the 150cc segment. Bajaj, TVS and Yamaha have an upper hand in this segment with their bikes featuring as the top 3 sellers.
But something that is surprising is that Suzuki is slowly but steadily climbing up the charts thanks to the success of its Gixxer which includes both the naked as well as the faired SF version. While Hero is dominating the entry-level commuter bike market in India, it seems that they are really having a dry run in this segment with the Xtreme and Achiever raking in just satisfactory sales numbers.
The Bajaj Pulsar has been a market hit since day one and the newer models have also been received well in the market. The numbers for the Pulsar include the Pulsar 150 as well as the AS 150. Japanese bikemaker Yamaha has tasted a lot of success with the FZ range of bikes that includes the FZ, FZ-S and Fazer but the R15 is also bringing in decent number of sales inspite of the fact that it is priced a bit higher while its rivals in the same price range also come with powerful engines.
The Hero Hunk and Yamaha SZ are running close to each other while the Bajaj Discover 150 is slightly behind them. Bajaj had managed to create a lot of confusion in the market by launching tons of variants of the Discover but now the company has discontinued a lot of them and only a couple of them remain on sale (Discover 100, Discover 125, Discover 150 S and F). The Honda CBR150R which is a direct competitor to the R15 has clocked just 1/4th the sales of the latter. The Hero Impulse which is almost phased out has managed to find just 2 homes.
