Maruti Alto retains the top seller tag for the 13th consecutive year despite seeing a 8.27 percent decline in sales.
According to the data released by the SIAM, Maruti Suzuki had only 6 models in the top 10 selling cars list in 2015-16. The company has added one more of its product to the 2016-17 top 10 selling list, thereby proving to be the highest passenger vehicle seller in the Indian market.
Maruti’s top seven models accounted for over 35 percent of total passenger vehicles sales at 10,74,937 units. Overall the country’s largest car manufacturer had a 47.38 percent market share in the PV segment. The company’s best selling Alto retained the top seller tag for the 13th consecutive year despite seeing a 8.27 percent decline in sales at 2,41,635 units v/s 2,63,422 units in the previous year.
The WagonR moved to the second position with sales of 1,72,346 units v/s 1,69,555 units in the previous year. The DZire moved from the second to third position with 1,67,266 units v/s 1,95,939 units in the previous year thereby witnessing a decline of 14.63 percent.
The fourth spot was held by the Maruti Swift with 1,66,885 units as compared to 1,95,043 units in the previous year. Hyundai’s Grand i10 held the fifth spot selling 1,46,228 units and the Elite i20 standing in the sixth place with 1,26,304 sales. The seventh place again held by a Maruti, the Baleno clocked sales of 1,20,804 units followed by the Renault Kwid at the eighth position selling 1,09,341 copies. The ninth and the tenth spot were taken by the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Celerio at 1,08,640 and 97,361 units respectively.
