Nissan has started testing the 2016 X-Trail hybrid in Chennai and the SUV is going to be launched in the later part of the year.
Nissan had displayed the 2016 X-Trail Hybrid at the recent Auto Expo and then we even drove it in the capital. The Japanese automaker is now testing the SUV in Chennai and it was spotted at GST Road by MotorBeam reader Reguvaran Reddy. Nissan will be launching only the hybrid version of the car in India because it doesn’t make sense to launch a diesel car at a high price point where there is also a lot of competition.
The Nissan X-Trail will be imported via the CBU route and the hybrid variant is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor, producing a total power output of 189 PS and twisting force of 367 Nm. The engine is coupled to a CVT gearbox while Nissan will also equip the car with a 4WD mode.
The 2016 Nissan X-Trail looks quite grown compared to the previous generation. The styling looks butch and the car has a distinct character to it. The interiors are touted to be spacious and comfortable too. The insides will also be loaded with a plethora of features and equipment.
Our country loves diesel SUVs while there are hardly any options available when we talk about hybrids. With more and more people getting aware about hybrids, it makes sense for Nissan to launch this here, especially considering the fact that there are no hybrid SUVs available in this price segment.
