The Volkswagen Ameo was recently caught testing in its production avatar. The car caught testing was the diesel automatic variant.
Following the policy of better late than never, Volkswagen recently decided to enter the highly competitive sub 4-metre compact sedan segment with the reveal of the Volkswagen Ameo. The Ameo is an integral part of Volkswagen’s strategy to improve its position in the Indian automotive market. Now, the much awaited compact sedan has been caught testing in production avatar.
The Ameo seen testing was equipped with an automatic gear lever and a TDI badge on the boot, indicating that the car is the 1.5-litre diesel engined variant, which produces 105 BHP of power, mated to the DSG gearbox. Interestingly, the same engine is used in the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI sans the DSG gearbox. The car is also expected to get the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine from the Polo GT TSI at a later stage.
The car spied here is the top of the range variant with alloy wheels similar to those seen on Polo, rear parking sensors and automatic climate control. The Ameo is also equipped with double barrel headlamps and steering mounted audio controls, along with cruise control. The compact sedan will come loaded to the brim with features like rain-sensing wipers, static cornering lights, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs with LED turn indicators, auto dimming IRVM, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, driver armrest and rear air-con vent.
The Volkswagen Ameo is built on the PQ25 platform shared with the Polo hatchback. The car can be considered as a Polo with a boot attached as the wheelbase and interior of the car are the same as that of the Polo. Volkswagen is leaving no stone un-turned to ensure that the Ameo succeeds in the market. Equipped with the famed German build quality, a long feature list and a powerful diesel engine which is mated to an extremely quick automatic transmission, this is one car to watch out for.
