Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its first sub-4m compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza in the Indian market. The launch of the same will happen in the coming months.
It is a known fact that Indians love SUVs. Another known fact is that not everyone wants to drive a huge vehicle in and around town on a daily basis besides not everyone can afford full-size SUVs. This gave birth to the compact SUV segment. The segment has become immensely popular in India now and every manufacturer wants a chunk of it. The latest one to claim stake is India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki. They have unveiled the Vitara Brezza at the ongoing Auto Expo with a launch scheduled for a later date.
The Vitara Brezza is the first car from Maruti Suzuki which was completely engineered in India. This shows that how relevant a car it is for our market. Even after having length constraints due to the sub 4 metre rule for lower excise duty, the SUV looks very proportionate. At the front is a smart looking grille surrounded by projector headlamps with LED DRLs. Under the hood lies the very familiar 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine which powers a number of cars from the Japanese brand’s stable.
The variant spread of the Vitara Brezza is very wide with the base variant offering only the basic necessities and the top-end variant offering premium features some of which the competition lacks. This makes the compact SUV the perfect choice for different customer segments. A petrol engine is not on offer currently and may be added later considering petrol cars are gaining popularity again due to lower emissions and lower price difference between fuel prices.
