The 2015 Tata Kite will be replacing the ageing Indica with petrol and diesel engine options and is expected to launch in the second half of 2015.
Boasting a successful year with the all new and widely accepted Zest compact sedan, Tata Motors is finally on the right track with its range of products and has a slew of new launches planned over the next 18 to 24 months. While the Bolt will be the company’s next major offering in the coming months, Tata plans to take a dominant position in the B-segment hatchback space with the all new Kite hatchback that will be replacing the ageing Indica in the company’s portfolio. With the launch scheduled for the second half of 2015, the Tata Kite was caught testing wearing heavy camouflage by our reader Abhinit Keshri, partially revealing the interiors of the car.
Based on a heavily revised Indica platform, the new Tata Kite gets completely revised interiors sporting new air-con vents and a smaller steering wheel. We also expect to see an updated music system with USB and AUX connectivity along with certain goodies like ABS and front airbags as part of the standard package. Coming to the exteriors, the new Kite will come with a completely new styling expected to be fresher than the Zest/Bolt models and is said to take inspiration from the Nexon compact SUV concept. The model however, will retain the spacious cabin that the Indica is known for.
In terms of powertrain, the 2015 Tata Kite will get a new 1.2-litre petrol engine, while a new 1.5-litre diesel engine is also in the offing with power output expected to be around 64 BHP and 142 Nm of torque. Both the engines will come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, while an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) could also be on offer to compete against the Maruti Celerio. With the Nano having taken a back seat due to low volumes, the automaker plans to produce the new Kite at its Sanand facility in Gujarat as its next volume based model. The Kite is also expected to undercut the competition in terms of pricing, giving the automaker a huge competitive advantage.
