The Wagon R XRest edition was first showcased at the Auto Expo this year and could be launched early next year as a crossover version of the hatchback with aesthetic upgrades.
Adding to its extensive lineup of limited and special edition models, Maruti Suzuki is now planning to launch a crossover version of the Wagon R in the form of the ‘XRest edition’ that was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. With the launch plans in place, the Wagon R XRest edition was spied recently, completely undisguised revealing the body cladded exteriors and updated interiors.
Compared to the standard Maruti Wagon R, the XRest edition comes with a comprehensively revised front grille, bumper and smoked headlamps. The vehicle gets black body cladding on the belt-line at the sides that run across the wheel arches. There are also brushed silver side skirts that add to the appeal of the special edition model. At the rear, changes are minimal with black cladding below the windscreen and smoked tail lights. The hatch also gets new 7-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside though, the Wagonr R XRest gets a new dual-tone dashboard done up in beige and brown, while the centre console is finished in wood. The fabric upholstered seats lend a premium look with the beige-black colour scheme.
As seen on all of Maruti’s special and limited edition variants, the mechanicals will remain untouched and the Wagon R XRest will continue to draw power from the tried and tested 1.0-litre K-Series petrol motor producing 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti will continue to retail the model in three variants along with a CNG variant. With the Wagon R consistently selling well, Maruti might see a significant rise in sales as the limited edition models add some style to the otherwise bland yet practical hatchback. Expect the prices to see a marginal rise over the regular version.
